Shadowbeak has amazing stats and 2 of the strongest exclusive attacks in the game, boosted by the saddle effect for double dark damage.
It is held back from the absolute top by the big hitbox and dark being a weak element in the current state of the game. Most bosses use strong dragon attacks, Holy Burst or similar multi hit attacks.

Shadowbeak is not a good base pal.
