With the release of Tides of Terraria Surfents stock skyrocketed.
A fast swimming mount at Lv 10 lets you start Fishing, Salvaging and exploring the map very early. For a pal you can catch at level 10+ Surfent also has some pretty decent stats with Hydro Jet, Dragon Cannon and Aqua Gun to spam at Lv 15. Perfect for mass catching some nearby Vanwyrms for Transporting.
If you spend a lot of time on the water Surfent might not get replaced until Neptilius.

At level 10 it is a good early Lv 2 watering pal, competing with Penking (alpha). Penking has other good work skills but also eats more. It can be worth switching in a Surfent for some crushing work.
